Breath Regulation Practice Skill

This technique is suggested for ages 4 and up

If you want to jump-start you or your child’s swimming future, learning how to blow bubbles or breath regulation is the most important foundation swimming skill to learn.  Practicing this skill prior to swimming lessons should reduce the time it takes to learn to swim and therefore save you a lot of money.  Think about it!  In order to be able to swim from point A to point B, you need to do so with your face in the water.  You should not hold your breath, you should be blowing gently while your face is in the water.  As a beginner, knowing how to properly let go of air under water helps a swimmer relax and more importantly, prevents water from getting up the nose!  You can’t close your nose!  Learning to keep water from going up your nose while swimming is important to your swimming progress.  Fortunately this skill is something that can be easily learned and practiced at home.  This skill can be learned and practiced in the bathtub or even by using a big bowl of water.  Following are easy step by step instructions.  These steps are not meant to be completed in a day. Once a step has been learned, practice it for many days before continuing to the next step. Become an expert, before moving on to the next step!
